Video size and aspect ratio calculator for every platform
Pick where the video will be posted to see the recommended size, ratio and length, then enter your video's size to see exactly how it fits: cropped to fill, or with bars.
- Aspect ratio
- 9:16
- Recommended size
- 1080 × 1920
- Length
- 3 s – 10 min
- File formats
- MP4, MOV, WebM
Your video is 16:9.
Crop to fill
Keep a 606 × 1080 area of your video and scale it to 1080 × 1920. About 68% of the picture is cut off, so keep the subject in the middle.
Fit with bars
Scale the whole video to 1080 × 606 inside a 1080 × 1920 frame. About 68% of the frame is bars or a blurred background, where captions can go.

How to use the calculator
- 1
Choose the placement
TikTok, Instagram Reels, Stories or feed, Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Snapchat or Bluesky.
- 2
Enter your video's size
Width and height in pixels, or tap a common size such as 1920 × 1080 (a horizontal phone or camera video).
- 3
Pick crop or bars
The calculator shows how much of the picture you lose if you crop to fill the frame, and how much of the frame is empty if you fit the whole video.
The short answer: 1080 × 1920, 9:16
For TikTok, Reels, Shorts, Stories, Snapchat, Threads and Bluesky the format is the same: vertical 9:16, ideally 1080 pixels wide and 1920 high, saved as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Export once at that size and the same file works on all of them, as long as the length suits the strictest one you post to.
The exceptions are feed videos. On Instagram and Facebook feeds, and on LinkedIn, a 4:5 portrait video (1080 × 1350) takes up more of the screen than a square one without being cropped in the grid. YouTube's regular videos are still horizontal 16:9.
What aspect ratio means
The aspect ratio is the shape of the frame: width compared with height. 9:16 means 9 units wide for every 16 high, a tall rectangle; 16:9 is the same rectangle turned on its side; 1:1 is a square; 4:5 is a slightly tall rectangle. The resolution is how many pixels fill that shape: 1080 × 1920 and 720 × 1280 are both 9:16, the first one sharper.
When the shape of your video and the shape of the placement differ, the platform has to do something: crop the edges, or add bars. It is always better to decide that yourself before uploading, which is what the calculator is for.
Crop or bars: which to choose
Cropping fills the screen, which is what short-video feeds reward, but it cuts away the sides of a horizontal video. That is fine when the subject is in the middle, a person talking or a product on a table, and bad when the action is spread across the frame.
Fitting with bars keeps everything, but leaves part of the screen empty. If you go that way, use the empty space: a blurred copy of the video behind it, a title at the top and subtitles at the bottom. Many tutorials and podcasts clips on TikTok are made exactly like this.
Tips for sharp vertical video
- Film vertically if the video is meant for short-video feeds; cropping later always costs quality.
- Keep text and faces out of the top 10% and bottom 20% of a 9:16 frame: buttons and captions cover them.
- Export at 30 fps; 60 fps only if the motion really needs it.
- Use MP4 (H.264 + AAC): it is the one format every platform accepts.
- Check the length: Facebook Reels stop at 90 seconds, Snapchat and Bluesky at 60.
Doing this for every post?
The PostingClips editor exports 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9 at full HD, and each post is checked against the length limit of the network before it is scheduled.

What size is a TikTok video?
1080 × 1920 pixels, aspect ratio 9:16, in MP4 or MOV. TikTok accepts other sizes, but anything that is not 9:16 is shown with bars or cropped.
What size are Instagram Reels?
1080 × 1920 (9:16). In the profile grid Reels are shown cropped to a 3:4 rectangle, so keep the important part in the centre.
What is the size of a YouTube Short?
Vertical 9:16, ideally 1080 × 1920, and up to three minutes long. A square video under three minutes also counts as a Short, but vertical fills the screen.
Can I use one size for every platform?
Yes: 1080 × 1920, 9:16, MP4, under 60 seconds is accepted by every short-video placement on the list. Feed videos on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn look better at 4:5.
Does the calculator upload my video?
No. It only does arithmetic with the numbers you type, entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
